Ten Dollar Tuesday: String Art

Hey Everyone! Todays Ten Dollar Tuesday is String Art, a really simple and cute way to add an accent to your home. It is also completely customizable which I love because you can really make it for you.

I purchased the piece of wood, the nails and the string all at the dollar store. I even purchased the hammer for a dollar at Target. That brings this entire DIY to $4. I chose to paint my piece of wood, you can buy craft pain for $2 so if you painted yours like I did it would bring it up to $6.

What you Need:

• Piece of wood
• String
• Nails
• Hammer

and optionally craft paint.

How To:

1. If you want to paint your wood start with that and let it sit overnight.

2. Draw and cut out a template of your choice. If you want to use the same one I did you can save the image below. Once you have your template place it in the centre of your wood and hammer in a nail and the top and the bottom of the template. You will be using this as your guide.

3. Now take your hammer and nail and lightly tap around the design making marks. I found that the template would slide around and this was the easiest way to get your design. I spaced mine out 2 cm apart, but the spacing is completely up to you.

4. Once you have your initial marks, hammer in your nails.

5. Once you're down, tie a knot down at the base of your design and begin to weave around your nails. There is no real method to this just go back and forth up and down and around the outline. This is going to require multiple layers to get your desired look.

6. Once you're happy with how it looks, tie a knot and tuck the piece of string so it's out of view.

Kids Craft Corner: Handprint Owls

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my very first "Kids Craft Corner", in this segment I will be posting  a video every one to two weeks where they are crafts that you can do with your children or that your children can do by themselves!

This week is "Handprint Owls" which makes an adorable little gift for Mother's Day coming up on May 11th. Depending on the age of your child this is easy enough for them to do alone, and it can be done with younger children as well.

Thanks to Misty Blue from Us & Him for volunteering her lovely daughter Brynn to be my assistant. Brynn is 9 months old and the end result turned out absolutely adorable. If you want to know more about Misty and her family click the link above.

Now let's get into this craft!

What You'll Need:

• Scrapbook paper or canvas
• Craft paint
• Sponge or paintbrushes
• Paper plates for mixing paint

The Project:

1. Begin by mixing your paint to your desired shade. I wanted a grey/blue colour for my owl so I mixed some navy/black with white paint. This step you can do yourself or it makes a great opportunity to begin teaching children about the colour wheel and how to mix certain colours to get others.

2. Once you're happy with your paint colours, you can either paint their hand or have them dip their hand in paint and put it down where they would like their owl to sit.

3. Once you have your owl, let it dry for a little bit. Get your kids to go wash their hands off and by the time they get back they can start adding details. They can add branches, leaves, a sun, clouds, grass, anything they want to their portrait. They can also give the owl a face and a beak.

5. Once you're happy with your owl you're finished! Once it's completely dried you can also frame it and have the kids give it to their moms on mothers day.

Another nice thing is the kids add their name in the bottom corner. They can also add any saying or phrases they may want. Let them customize it however they please, this is what makes it truly special.

Ten Dollar Tuesday DIY: Gold Sharpie Cups

Hello Everyone!

I am starting a new segment called: Ten Dollar Tuesdays! or TDT for short. This is where I bring you a quick and easy DIY every Tuesday that is under $10!

Now for today's TDT I decided to do Gold Sharpie Cups. So let's get started!

What You Need:

• Cup of your choice
• Gold Sharpies

optional: Rubbing Alcohol

DIY:

I bought my cups at Target for $3.99, you can find these cups at the dollar store but Target was right there and it was convenient (laziness at it's finest) and I bought a pack of 2 sharpies for $2.99, that brings this DIY to a total of $6.98. Making this DIY under the $10 mark.

1. Start by cleaning the surface of your cup. I prefer to use rubbing alcohol to get any oils off the cup. Wipe dry with a paper towel and your surface is ready to be drawn on.

A quick tip: Don't touch the area with your hands as the oils on your skin will affect the setting of the design.

2. Take your sharpie and begin to draw your desired design. I recommend to sticking to something that doesn't require a large surface area, as it's not the easiest thing to do and your design will look cleaner.

3. Once you have your desired design, put your cup into a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes.

4. This step is optional but I found it helped my design a lot. Let your cups cool and go over the design once more. This filled in any weird spots and made the design look neater. Put back into the oven for another 20 minutes.

5. Remove and let cool completely.

Do It Yourself: Vintage Suitcase Table

Hello Everyone! This has to be the most exciting DIY I have ever done and it is the reason I started this blog. I am so extremely happy with how it turned out, it's extremely easy to do and looks so fantastic and is such a unique piece of furniture to have in your home. It is a little pricey but if your a bargain hunter you can find any of this stuff at a thrift store. Now without further adieu, lets jump right into the DIY!

March Favourites

Hello Everyone! And happy April, I am hoping wherever you are you are experiencing spring since here in Canada we still have days that snow. Which in kinder words, it can take a hike now. Anyway, today I filmed a March favourites video, I decided it was time I made an appearance on camera for once. If you are not much of a youtube watcher, I will have this handy blog post here to break everything down for ya.

Tarte Maracuja Oil - This is my first time using a Tarte product and it  completely spur of the moment. I saw it was in a set for only $12 and all the reviews were positive about the oil so I said why not. I suffer from dry skin and this weather is not helping me, so every night I use this oil and my skin is so much softer and brighter. If you suffer from dry skin, give this a go, it worked wonders for me. Get It Here

Tarte Eye Cream - This was the other item that came in the set and I am equally as in love with this. I don't suffer from too bad of dark circles but I do have a little and this product is making them fade completely. My eyes look brighter and more awake, it's to the point I barely ever wear any face makeup. Which I am sure my skin is thanking me for. Get It Here

GlamGlow Face Mask - This face mask is fantastic, it looks a little funky but man does it work. If I am ever even starting to have a breakout it kills it right when its starting and leaves my skin so bright (I'm on a brightening kick haha) and clear. This item is a little pricey with the sample size sitting at $21, but it's definitely worth a try. Get It Here

St. Ives Even and Bright Scrub - I have been using this for over a month now and I have nothing bad to say about it. It is a medium exfoliator so it diminishes any dry patches I might have and it has been brightening my skin as it says it should. I also love the smell. More Info Here

Fez - I am obsessed with this game. I cannot even express to you how happy it makes me. It really takes it back to classic gaming. You follow Gomez on his adventure to restore his once 2D world from a now 3D one. It involves a lot of puzzles as you gather cube bits that have scattered across the land. It is available on: PC, XBOX 360, PS3, PS4, and PS VITA. If you haven't already tried it I recommend it highly. Download It Here

Wolf of Wall Street - This movie is insane and over the top but that's what makes it fantastic. It is rather long (3 hours) but it is well worth the watch. Leo as always is absolutely fantastic. Download It Here

We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow by Soko - This is my song choice. Although the name is rather morbid, the song is soft and almost bitter sweet. If you have watched the First Kiss video you have heard this song already, if not, listen away my friends, listen away. Listen Here

The Walking Dead Graphic Novel - I am rereading these and if you like zombies you probably should get on this band wagon. I watch the show as well and the comics are just that much more amazing. They're action packed, drama filled, heck there is even romance if you like that sort of stuff. iBooks has the first issue for free so definitely go and check it out. Download It Here

That finishes off my March favourites. I hope you enjoy some of them if you give them a go.

Have a fantastic day! And thanks for watching or reading, or even both.
